2024 Edna M. Hart Keeper of the Dream Scholarship Award Recipient
Justice L. Alexander, IB Sr Eastside High School
Justice Laurielle Alexander is a proud 3rd generation Ram and current Student Body President at Eastside High School. She is currently a senior in the rigorous International Baccalaureate program, where she maintains a 4.04 weighted GPA. Justice serves in several leadership capacities, such as Co-President of the Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica (Spanish Honor Society), Clarinet Section Leader for the Eastside High School Marching and Symphonic Bands, President of the EHS HOPE Squad, Secretary of Model United Nations at EHS, and Vice-President of the first Black Student Union in Eastside’s history. She is also a member of several other extracurricular clubs and organizations, both on and off campus, such as the EHS National English Honor Society, Key Club, Pre-Collegiate, Eastside Theater, Tri-M Honor Society, National Achievers Society, Alachua County Teen Court Volunteer, and the NAACP Youth Council, among others.
Justice has always been a very bright and determined young lady. Since she was born, she has defeated many odds due to a medical condition known as albinism which causes her to have a visual disability. Despite the academic and social challenges that she has faced throughout the years,. She is very proud of the fact that she made history as the first student with albinism to hold the office of Student Body President at Eastside High School and will graduate from high school at the age of 17.
In addition to her extracurricular clubs and activities, Justice also emphasizes her participation in various aspects of the performing arts. She began singing solos in church at the age of three, and in addition to band, she also regularly performs with the Eastside chorus. Through music, Justice also gives back to her community. She has performed for many community organizations and events, including the Alachua County NAACP Freedom Fund Banquets, East Gainesville Relay for Life, the March of Dimes, the Martin Luther King Jr. Commission of Florida, Moms Demanding Action Against Gun Violence, Military Appreciation Celebrations, and various other community events. Justice has spent several summers volunteering at Summer Band Camps and Band Music Performance Assessments (MPAs) for her alma mater, Lincoln Middle School. She plans to continue pursuing music in college, with plans to join either the Pride of the Sunshine Band at the University of Florida, or the Marching 100 at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU).
Though her academics and community involvement are time consuming, Justice prioritizes her faith, and frequently contributes to her ministry. A lifelong member of the Monteocha New Life Christian Center Church, Justice’s ministry also lies within her passion for music. She serves as a psalmist and musician, playing her soprano and alto clarinets in service each week, along with leading the youth choir and Youth Praise Team. As for her plans for the future, Justice hopes to obtain a master’s degree in international relations and plans to use this degree to act as a diplomat advocating for humanitarian aid around the world. Justice is grateful to her parents John and Janelle Alexander, her siblings Jewel, Journey, and John III, as well as her grandparents, teachers and administration, family, congregation, and friends.
We proudly recognize and present the 2024 Edna M. Hart Keeper of the Dream Scholarship Award to Justice Alexander, Senior, Eastside High School .
